Biography

"Equally Yoked". Charcoal, conte, graphite, gesso on plywood. 74" x 40".
Nathan Turner's first memories of creating art go back to his early childhood in Broadstairs, England. He would open
soccer magazines and nature books and reproduce his favourite players and animals as accurately as possible. It was a
challenge and succeeding brought a great sense of satisfaction. These early drawings were usually created in pencil. It
was not until moving to Canada at the age of thirteen that Nathan began to experiment with other mediums. In high
school his art began to take on another dimension as he became aware of the potential to create artwork that
carried a message or meaning that went beyond simply being an esthetically pleasing image or being about the
enjoyment of the art-making process alone.
While completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art at the University of Waterloo, Nathan Turner received
numerous awards and scholarships for his artistic and academic achievements. Since graduating from university
Nathan has enjoyed continued success in winning awards and prizes for his work. Among these are two
Best
Drawing Awards from the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition and the Leading Edge Award for outstanding achievement
in the arts in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.
As a recipient of the Ontario Arts Council Artists in Education Grant, Nathan has taught several figure drawing
courses at the secondary level. He has also developed curriculum and instructed drawing at the university level.
Nathan continues to create his award-winning artwork from his studio in Kitchener, Ontario, while also completing
commissioned artwork for individuals and organizations. His focus is translating ideas into images for organizations
who commission him to capture and articulate their corporate brand, vision and values in works of art.
